Latest Malignant Mesothelioma - General News

MVP Does Not Provide Benefit in Mesothelioma Patients (5/21/2008)
The chemotherapy agent Navelbine® (vinorelbine) may improve outcomes for patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma. However, the combination chemotherapy regimen referred to as MVP (mitoxantrone, vinblastine, and cisplatin) does not provide any benefit for patients with this disease. These results were published in The Lancet.

Minimally Invasive Endoscopic Procedure Shows Promise for Detecting Lung Cancer (2/8/2008)
Use of a minimally invasive technique called endoscopy to detect lung cancer may be more effective than more complicated and invasive standard procedures. These findings were recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Alimta®/Platinum-compound Combination Confirmed Active in Mesothelioma (6/26/2007)
According to results recently presented at the 2007 annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the chemotherapy combination consisting of Alimta® (pemetrexed) plus a platinum compound (Platinol® [cisplatin] or Paraplatin® [carboplatin]) has been confirmed as an active therapeutic regimen in the treatment of patients with previously untreated malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Alimta® Alone or with Platinol® Benefits Patients with Recurrent Mesothelioma (8/3/2006)
According to results recently published in the Journal of Thoracic Oncology, treatment with the chemotherapy agent Alimta® (pemetrexed) with or without the chemotherapy agent Platinol® (cisplatin) provides benefit for patients with malignant mesothelioma who have received prior therapies.
