Lawrence B. Holt, Jr., MD, FACP

Dr. Holt established the practice specializing in the treatment of cancer and blood disorders in November 1982 and is Coastal Cancer Center’s president. He is state licensed in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia and has Board Certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine for both Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine, as well as from the National Board of Medical Examiners. A Native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Dr. Holt graduated from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia and received his medical education at the Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Holt’s residency and internship were performed at the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was the recipient of an American Cancer Society Clinical Fellowship. In 1998 he was awarded Fellowship in the American College of Physicians.

Dr. Holt has been on the active staff at both Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and Conway Medical Center since 1982. He received active privileges at Waccamaw Community Hospital in 2002. He also has consulting privileges at Loris Hospital and Brunswick Community Hospital. He was the Founding Chairman of the Cancer Committee and Tumor Board at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center (serving 1989-1997) and was Chief of Staff at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in 1988 and 1989, having also served on the Board of Trustees as Vice Chief of Staff and Secretary/Treasurer. He has been on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society, has served as a staff physician for “Camp Happy Days,” a camp for children with cancer, and has served on the Board of Directors for Mercy Hospice. He was President of the South Carolina Oncology Society in 1998 and 1999 and served on the Clinical Practice Committee for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) is 1998 and 1999. During this time, he also served on the Health Services Research Committee for ASCO and the ACSO Sponsorship Committee. He is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA) and a past Board Member of the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC). He was the original Principal Investigator for Coastal Cancer Center’s clinical trials program.
