Dr. Emily Z. Touloukian, DO elected to the Board of Directors of Community Oncology Alliance (COA)
On Sunday, June 1st hundreds of local cancer survivors and their families gathered together to celebrate the gift of life on National Cancer Survivors Day. This year’s event was held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center with a fun-filled theme of “Give Cancer the Boot”. Survivors dressed the part and arrived in their best western gear from cowboy hats to boots and bandanas. It was a joy seeing everyone supporting one another in giving caner the boot.
Guests enjoyed entertainment by local singers, Maddie Hunt and Owen Reeves, as well as country line dancing performed by local line dancers. We were honored to welcome brain tumor survivor, Greg Sousa, who was the events keynote speaker. Greg traveled from Raleigh, North Carolina to be a part of this special day and share his story. Greg has a unique story as he cycled from North Carolina to Florida in 2013 to raise money for the Tisch Brain Tumor Center. Greg’s efforts raised over $41,000.
Guests did not leave empty handed as over 25 gift baskets were donated from Coastal Cancer Center employees and given to survivors. Over 30 local companies also donated gift certificates and gifts to also be donated.
Fifteen local vendors also took part in the event where they were able to share their services with the guests. Vendors included Perfect Fit, American Cancer Society, Coping with Cancer Support group and many more.
Thank you to everyone who made the 11th Annual Cancer Survivors Day a huge success. We look forward to sharing this special day with you again next year.
